Nadia is alive - Nadia is really his reason for living - Shannon aside - Shannon happened because he "knew" he would never find Nadia - he had given up hope after the crash - but I think there is some part of him that still wants to find her. I mean why would he be buying a tie to wear for her if he knew she was dead??????? I have gotten tired of listening to all these podcasts and reading all these forums and having no one realize that he said this. I have been waiting for the episode with Sayid's backstory that would explain why he thought she was dead. There must have been something that happened in that last day that if he got there in the next day she could be saved, if not, then the government would get her. The only reason I say this is because there was a deleted scene about Sayid buying a tie for Nadia when he meets her. The other thought is that they deleted this scene for a reason (rewrites).
