The Hidden Blast Door Map

Since there has been an explosion of discussion on the Hidden Blast Door Map from “Lockdown” I decided to put pics up of the best ones around and link you to the sites.
The pic above is a awesome illustration by Colin of AndFound.com. You can see a bigger version by clicking here
This next one is from Sledgeweb’s Lost It has translations of the latin found in the text. Click Here
Cassie aka Zack Attack Jr, who has been studying latin, sent in an email discussing how she had her own take on the translations:
I went through all of the Latin Text and found basically the same translations as the ones on this website http://lost.cubit.net . But I also found a couple of things they didn’t mention and i kind of disagreed with one of their translations. So here’s what I came up with:
Sursum Corda- Uplift your heart. (with this one the website said that it was to god in parenthesis but i was thinking it didn’t necessarily have to be to god i mean you could just like get happy or something. moving right along)
Aegrescit Medendo- The remedy is worse than the disease.
Malum consilium quod mutari non potest- It is a bad/evil plan which we do not have the power to change.
Cogisto ergo doleo - I think over, therefore, I grieve.
Nil actum reputa si quid superest agendum- Do not consider an old job done if there is still more to be done.
Ut sit magna tamen certe lenta ira deorum est- The wrath downwards is large but surely is slowly. (the translation on the website says it is the wrath of the gods but I personally think that it isn’t necessarily the gods but maybe just a higher power or something that was really scary to whoever made this map , the others??)
Mus uni non fidit antro- A mouse does not rely on one hole.
Liberte te es inferis- Save yourself from below. (yet again the translations on the website say that below really means hell but how do you know its not the bunker they’re talking about cause, i mean, it’s below too, right?)
Hic sunt dracoons- Here are dragons/demons.
Credo nos in flucto eodem esse- I believe we are on the same wave/wavelength.
This last one is from TheTailSection.com. It is a pretty clean illustration of the Map with most of the text easily printed out. Click Here
So those are the some of ones that people have sent in to me so far. Expect a big portion of the next Lost in Review segment devoted to The Map.

Here is my two cent theory/summation:
1) Food is dropped off every 6-8 months to the Dharma people. When that happens, every bunker goes into a lockdown… this is what (I believe) the voice was warning about last night. Since the hatch is supposed to have two people in it, one person stays in it (for protection) and the other goes to retrieve the food. In this way the people in each hatch get what they need without the experiment being compromised.
2) The real Henry Gale works for Dharma and was making the dropoff. The fake Henry Gale - one of the “Others” - causes the balloon to crash after the drop off. He then buried the dude just before the French woman caught him. Knowing a bit about the Dharma dude, the fake dude assumed the identity of Henry Gale.
3) Side theory: The real Henry Gale is Rose’s brother (the African American woman on the island married to Bernard)
4) The “Others” are not official Dharma people. They are the products of the Dharma experiments and took over a few of the bunkers.
5) When Desmond and Kelvin were in the hatch, they put together the blacklight map we saw last night.
6) The map represents the hatches and how they are connected. After the “incident” mentioned in the film, the tunnels underground were separated off from each other.
7) Walt is in one of these other bunkers. Over there they are working on psychic experiments. Perhaps through that technology, he is able to project himself to different places on the island.
9) The medical hatch is an experiment in extending life. The injections that they gave Claire for her baby were the same that Desmond took in episode 1 of this season.
10) Another hatch controls the weather on the island. It is meant to provide stimulus for the horticultural side of things while also providing hard conditions for the Scorpion experiment participants to try to survive.
11) Desmond took off when the castaways found the hatch. My guess is that he’s heading to the big question mark in the center of the island and we’ll see him again.
12) The center of the island (the big question mark) is the main hub of the Dharma initiative. This is where the monster is controlled (a program designed to read information on people via mind scanning).
Not that I have any theories or anything…

“Whoa…”

Hey, that is an amazing theory tony, are you a writer for the show!:)
Of course I know where Walt has really been, back in the states guest starrigng on tv shows. Earlier this year he was on Law and Order: SVU and last night he was on another hilarious episode of ‘My Name is Earl’ playing a kid who was scared of the dark.
After being on the island I can’t blame him.
Also, has anyone seen this show on ABC’s Saturday Morning lineup called ‘Flight 29 Down’. It is pretty much a a kid rip off of LOST, but pretty funny and addicting to pare the kid characters with the Lost cast aways. Theres a Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Lock…
aaaannyyywwsssassssyyyss, just chimming in on those tidpits of info. Back to the map.

I think that crossed off bunker in the top left was the thing affected the most by “the incident” which would explain the few things around it talking about malfuctions, I think the 3 latin “lift up your hearts to god” things right next to it symbolize 3 people killed while they were in that bunker.

Jay, thanks for posting those links. They’re terrific.
Tony, I love the idea of Henry Gale being Rose’s brother.

NEXT WEEK LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering. I watched the episode Man of Science/Man of faith, and saw DESMOND jump off the bed and scoot over to the monitor and then enter the code.
QUESTION: Aren’t the beds located in another room different from where the computer is?
Or is there two computers?
I’m confused and was hoping someone could help me.
Respectfully,
Ralph from Athens Greece

Oh yeah, and I think the REAL Hanry Gale had been on the island for awhile. His driver’s license expired in ‘03…

@Dr. Lori, you might be right but we still dont know what year they crashed.

even better version of the map: an interactive version included! http://lost4815162342.com/2006/03/swan-station-blast-door-blacklight-map.html

does anyone besides me think that this whole blacklight map is a way for the producers to give us poor viewers a headache?
April 3rd, 2006 at 3:31 am
I made the mistake of making the translated map image the background on my desktop. Don’t do it. You’ll never get up from your computer. Ever.
April 3rd, 2006 at 3:36 am
Oh yeah- Ralph, there is actually a bed in the room with the computer. I saw it in this last episode.
April 3rd, 2006 at 8:23 am
Agreed Dr. Lori. I made the same mistake and was up way too late last night because of it. Needless to say I’m barely awake at work this morning.

Thanks! I believe Michael’s story will be recapped soon… probably the first show after the next break of reruns.
My theory is that he will find a bunker only to discover Walt isn’t there. He will think Walt is there but in reality he will have found the hatch that deals with the medical experiments on the side of the island where they infect people. Perhaps the Scorpion bunker.
He was coerced over there via the computer because they are looking for a negative test subject. Since he and Walt are related, Michael will be the “negative” and Walt will be the “positive.”
Walt, meanwhile, will have grown… in more ways than one.

Okay, I thought i remembered reading the expression “here be dragons” (one of the Latin phrases) on a map - but I couldn’t remember if it was Fiction (Tolkein, maybe), or something older (fact?). So I googled it, and found this site:
http://www.maphist.nl/extra/herebedragons.html
A pretty interesting read on the use of the phrase. Even a couple of historical people with names that sound vaguely like “DeGrut”. WHo knows? But it sure is fun to speculate!
April 5th, 2006 at 1:53 am
The phrase “Uplift your heart” sounds really close to the phrase “Lift up your hearts” which is a phrase used every week in American Roman Catholic Mass.
Mass was said in Latin up until sometime last century when it was changed to the local language.

I got this inkling of a feeling that all the latin is just some smarmy grafitti. If anyone knows kids who to special schools (the kind where gifted kids go to) you know they simply LOVE writing messages like “Kick Me” or “You smell” in foreign or even dead languages. The give away seems to be “Here be Dragons”. Gifted children having a go? could be.
