Kilometers, not meters.
And I thought Jack’s crackpot theory was pretty good, except Sayid said in both flashforwards that he was one of the Oceanic Six.

Jack, I kinda liked your crappy Crackpot Theory. Hah. Except I need to re-watch the episode again to see if Sayid says something about the Oceanic Six in the second “flash forward.”

Just starting to listen to the show now so I don’t know if you get into this later but Sayid is in the Seychelles at the beginning of the show. Seychelles is an island country off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean (and technically counts as an African country). It’s just north of Madagascar.
